It was such an honour to win England’s first medal of the Commonwealth Games. The 200m is not a distance I normally swim, in fact it was the first time I have competed in the race in an international meet, so to be able to win a medal was a real bonus for me and a great boost for my confidence going into the 400m and 800m later on in the week.
My England teammates are doing so well too, it’s a happy team at the moment and I’m loving the whole experience!

Rebecca Adlington has set the fastest 800m freestyle time of the year so far at the Mare Nostrum series in Barcelona. She clocked a time of 8.21.25 minutes, and in the process lowered the mark she set at the British Gas Championships in March. She also shaved over three seconds off fellow Briton Jo Jackson's meet record set last year.

Rebecca is competing this weekend, 25-28th June, at the Scottish National Swimming Championships in Tollcross, Glasgow. This event also doubles as the final selection meet for British athletes hoping to secure their place on the British Team for next month’s World Championships in Rome, 26th July to 2nd August.

On Monday 15th June, Rebecca was presented with the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award for 2008 in London. She collected the award from London 2012 Chairman Lord Coe and fellow double Olympic Gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes.
